Mariposa Stairway
In the Mariposa neighborhood in Bogotá—named for the wing-like shape of the barrio on the hillside, with a green “body” of trees down the middle as the body)—paintings of butterflies are everywhere.
Giving him back his leg
A Banksy in Paris. A tale of greed and deception—a man gives a bone to a dog, but it’s the dog’s own leg, and the man himself sawed it off and took the meat. Sadly, as of summer 2019, this one has been painted over.
Jungle wall
Great mural with tons of wildlife!
Praying mantis
This praying mantis is resting on a Cape Protea. Found among a small pocket of graffiti in Muizenberg in Cape Town. So gloriously huge.
Falko elephant with rolling stones lips
This wonderful elephant was found in the back end of a semi industrial area in Cape Town (near Access Park, off the M5 highway). The artist, Falko, does elephants all over the world. This one is particularly lovely as it has the rolling stones iconic mouth on it. I will have to find Falko and ask why, as I have no idea. It makes for a pretty piece of street art!
Deer
This deer was pasted up on a wall in Stockholm, Sweden. So stuck on rather than painted on the spot. It was on an underpass. No idea who the artist is sadly.
Slender Loris from Bangalore, India
This is a picture of the Slender Loris (Loris tardigradus) drawn on one of the underpass walls in Bangalore. Harini has a student who has been conducting interviews talking to local people to tap their memories of the loris that was once found more abundantly in the city. Picture taken by Seema Mundoli (artist unknown)
Brazil bug
The graffiti was at the Federal University of Goiás in Goiânia. It was one of many murals across the campus. Murals seemed to be a cultural feature of the city, especially natural images.
Sparrows are everywhere!
As I start a book review for The Nature of Cities (https://www.thenatureofcities.com/2017/07/24/sparrow-constant-friend/), sparrows are everywhere! I found this beauty driving through the city of Puebla (Mexico). The picture is of a male house sparrow (_Passer domesticus_).
